FRIENDS IN CLINTON HILL

FRIENDS IN CLINTON HILL - BROOKLYN, NEW YORK

When friends of Shadow Architect’s Principal Larry Cohn purchased the top floor of an old brownstone in Clinton Hill, they reached out to the firm to guide them through the renovation of the kitchen and bathroom spaces. For the kitchen, open to the adjacent living room and connected to the apartment’s large outdoor space, the owners were looking for eye-catching, classic appeal that would also maximize their storage and function a cooking workhorse. Centered on a new Lacanche range, the new kitchen delivers with a full-height wall of storage on one side and a light-filled countertop work area opposite. Other than the range, the appliances are cleverly concealed behind the hand-painted cabinetry panels, and open shelves provide easy access for day-to-day goods. In the bathroom, Moroccan Zellige tiles create a warm backdrop for the plumbing and custom medicine cabinet, with light poring in from the skylight above. As intended, the renovated rooms bring a joy and casual luxury to the home.
