RAF'S

RAF’S - NOLITA, NEW YORK

Raf's is a restaurant and café in NYC’s Nolita neighborhood, created in a former commercial bakery space, with architecture by Shadow Architects and design by Post Company. The new owners had previously worked with Shadow Architects on the nearby Musket Room, and with the addition of Chefs Mary Attea and Camari Mick, and the imagination of Post Company, Raf’s reimagines the historic charm of the century-old building with the sensibility of European café society. The space is a blend of modern and vintage elements, creating an ambience that is both elegant and relaxed, intimate and grand.

In addition to the interior layout of two floors, Shadow Architects led the process of getting City Landmarks' approval for Raf's new storefront. As coordinated with Post Company’s design, the new deep red painted wood and glass facade directly references the original bakery storefront from the 1930s. Details on the interior include a wood and marble bar, a mosaic floor made from custom-cut marble and ceramic, and, visible from the main dining room, the original wood-burning bakery ovens.
